Islamabad, the federal capital, is one of the cities where the Virtual University of Pakistan keeps a physical presence so that students of its online degree programs have a local place to go for support. VU, headquartered in Lahore, was set up by the federal government in 2002 as a public, HEC-recognised online university with support campuses in well over a hundred cities. This page explains how the model works in Islamabad (Islamabad Capital Territory).
About the Campus
The capital has a large population of working professionals, government employees and students who cannot attend a conventional day university, which is exactly the audience VU was created for. A VU campus in Islamabad serves students from the city itself as well as nearby areas of the capital territory and the Potohar region.
VU does not teach in lecture halls. Lectures are recorded by faculty and delivered through the Learning Management System (LMS) and VU’s television channels. The city campus gives students a physical point of contact: computer labs with internet, help with admission and registration, and examination arrangements.
VU operates two kinds of campuses: campuses run directly by the university, and Private Virtual Campuses (PVCs) run by affiliated private institutions under VU’s supervision. Both types appear on the official campus directory at vu.edu.pk/pvcs, which lists each campus by province and city along with its address. Confirm the exact address and campus code of your chosen Islamabad campus on that directory, because PVC lists change between sessions.

Admissions at this Campus
Admission to VU is centralised. There is no campus-level admission: every applicant registers on the national online portal at vu.edu.pk/apply, uploads scanned documents, pays the processing fee through a bank challan and selects one program. On the form the applicant chooses a preferred campus, which becomes the student’s point of contact for labs and exams. The Islamabad campus can help you fill the form but cannot admit you on its own. VU admits students twice a year, in Fall (August-September) and Spring (February-March). Our VU Undergraduate Admissions 2026-27 page covers the current cycle in detail.
Facilities
VU’s official pages do not publish facility details for each individual campus. In general, a VU campus or PVC is expected to provide a computer lab with internet access for watching lectures and attempting online assessments, a notice board, and staff for admission and examination support. Hostels are not part of the VU model; confirm what the Islamabad campus offers before relying on it.
