IBA Karachi Admission Guide: Aptitude Test, Eligibility and Fee Structure

IBA Karachi undergraduate admission guide: aptitude test format, HSSC eligibility, SAT/ACT exemption, per-credit-hour fee and how to apply for Fall 2027.

Illustration of IBA Karachi modern business school building

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi is the oldest business school in Pakistan and one of the most competitive places to study after intermediate. Established in 1955, it is a public degree-awarding institute that now offers programmes well beyond business, including computer science, economics, mathematics and social sciences. Admission is strictly on merit through the IBA Aptitude Test or an accepted international test. This guide explains the eligibility rules, the test, the fee structure and the application process for Fall 2027. For a quick overview, see our IBA Karachi profile.

Undergraduate Programmes at IBA

IBA offers four-year undergraduate degrees in the following areas:

  • BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration)
  • BS Business Analytics
  • BS Accounting and Finance
  • BS Computer Science
  • BS Economics
  • BS Economics and Mathematics
  • BS Mathematics
  • BS Social Sciences and Liberal Arts
  • BS Economics and Data Science

IBA has a Fall intake each year, and the Fall 2027 admission cycle is currently open. There is no separate spring undergraduate intake, so plan your preparation around the Fall timeline.

Eligibility Criteria

IBA sets different minimum HSSC percentages depending on the programme:

ProgrammeMinimum HSSC marks
BBA, BS Business Analytics, BS Accounting and Finance65%
BS Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Social Sciences and related programmes60%

Students who have appeared in HSSC Part-II and are awaiting results can usually apply on the basis of Part-I marks, with the final offer subject to meeting the requirement. A-Level students need an IBCC equivalence certificate. Some programmes, such as Computer Science and Mathematics, may require Mathematics at intermediate level, so confirm the subject requirement on the official admission page.

The IBA Aptitude Test Explained

The IBA Aptitude Test is the main gateway to admission. It is designed to measure reasoning ability rather than memorised textbook content. The test covers four areas:

  • Quantitative reasoning: arithmetic, algebra, basic geometry and data interpretation, similar in level to intermediate mathematics but focused on problem solving.
  • Analytical reasoning: puzzles and logical arrangement questions where you apply a set of rules.
  • Logical reasoning: evaluating arguments, conclusions and assumptions.
  • English: vocabulary, grammar, sentence correction and reading comprehension.

Because IBA does not publish merit cut-offs, you cannot know in advance what score will be enough. Your best strategy is to practise widely with aptitude-style material, manage your time carefully during the test and aim to be as strong as possible in all four sections. Our entry tests hub has general preparation advice for aptitude exams in Pakistan.

SAT, ACT and Other Test Exemptions

If you have already taken an international standardised test, you may not need to sit the IBA Aptitude Test. IBA accepts SAT-I, ACT, GMAT and GRE scores for exemption. For the ACT, the published guidance mentions a composite score around 28 to 29. For the SAT, only the highest scorers receive direct admission or an interview call; a moderate SAT score may not be enough on its own. The exact score thresholds are decided by IBA each cycle, so check the official admission announcement before relying on this route. If you are unsure, taking the IBA Aptitude Test as well keeps your options open.

How to Apply Online

  • Go to onlineadmission.iba.edu.pk and register with a valid email address and mobile number.
  • Fill in your academic details, including Matric and Intermediate marks, and select the programmes you wish to apply for.
  • Upload scanned documents such as result cards, CNIC or B-Form and a recent photograph.
  • Pay the admission test or processing fee using the method given on the portal and keep the receipt.
  • Download your admit card for the aptitude test when it becomes available and note your test date and centre.

After the test, results and admission offers are announced through the portal. Admission at IBA is strictly merit-based; there is no quota or reserved seat system, so every applicant competes on the same basis. Keep an eye on our admissions page for cycle announcements.

Fee Structure

IBA charges tuition per credit hour rather than a flat semester fee. For Fall 2026, the first-year rate was approximately PKR 31,500 per credit hour. On top of tuition, students pay activity charges and a 3% Sindh sales tax on services. A typical semester involves several courses, each worth a number of credit hours, so your total depends on your course load. Fees are revised periodically, so download the latest fee schedule from the official IBA website before estimating your budget.

IBA has a long tradition of financial assistance and scholarships for talented students who cannot afford the full fee. Information about need-based aid and merit scholarships is available on the official site, and you can find other national options in our scholarships section.
