Explore Basic Sciences and Related Studies – QUEST Nawabshah at University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, including duration, eligibility and connected admission resources.

The Department of Basic Sciences and Related Studies at Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology, Nawabshah is listed on the university’s undergraduate programmes page under the Faculty of Science. Unlike the engineering departments, its main role is to teach the foundation subjects that every BE and BS student at QUEST takes in the first years.

Program Overview

Basic Sciences and Related Studies covers applied physics, applied chemistry, applied mathematics, English communication skills, Islamic studies, Pakistan studies and related humanities and social-science courses required by the HEC and PEC curricula. The department’s faculty teach across all the engineering and science degrees, and in recent years the Faculty of Science has grown separate BS degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English out of this base.

As of October 2026 the official programmes page lists the department but does not advertise a standalone four-year degree titled Basic Sciences; the 2026 admission notice instead opens BS Physics, BS Chemistry, BS Mathematics and BS English. Students interested in the sciences at QUEST should therefore apply to one of those named BS programmes and treat this page as a guide to the department rather than to a separate admission track.

Pre-engineering, pre-medical and computer science groups are all considered for BS degrees, though the notice says admission of pre-medical candidates to BS Physics needs HEC permission. Regular and self-finance seats are for candidates domiciled in Sindh; applicants from other provinces can apply only under the self-finance scheme, and some seats are reserved for overseas Pakistanis and differently-abled candidates. All applicants must sit the QUEST Pre-Admission Test and score at least 40 marks. Source: quest.edu.pk/news/212.
