Explore BS English – National University of Modern Languages at National University of Modern Languages, including duration, eligibility and connected admission resources.
BS English at the National University of Modern Languages is a four-year undergraduate degree in English literature, linguistics and language teaching, offered at the Islamabad main campus and at all nine regional NUML campuses across Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.
Program Overview
BS English at NUML is one of the university’s flagship undergraduate degrees and is available at every campus. The program combines English literature (poetry, drama, fiction, literary criticism and theory, Pakistani and postcolonial writing) with linguistics (phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis) and applied areas such as English language teaching, academic writing and research methods. A final-year thesis or project is standard.
Students who read widely, enjoy analysing texts and want to teach, write, research or work in communication-heavy jobs are the natural audience. Because NUML began as a language institute, the English departments are large and the exposure to other languages on campus is a real advantage.

Career Scope in Pakistan
English graduates are in constant demand as school and college teachers across Pakistan, and NUML graduates are well placed for language-centre and ELT jobs. Other common destinations are content writing and editing, journalism, corporate communication, call-centre and customer-experience management, publishing and translation. Many sit the CSS/PMS exams, and an MPhil opens university lecturing.
