Government College University (GCU) Lahore traces its history to Government College, founded in 1864, and became a university in 2002. It is a public institution known for its sciences, humanities, social sciences and fine arts programs, and admits most BS students on open merit without an entry test.

Admission Process

Apply through the online portal www.gcuonline.pk and pay a Rs. 1,000 per-subject processing fee at any UBL branch (mobile app or Omni payments are not accepted). No printed form is needed until merit lists are displayed; shortlisted candidates then bring documents for verification or interview. Intake is in Fall. Minimum eligibility is 50% in Intermediate Part-I (60% for BSc Electrical Engineering and Pharm-D, 45% for BFA).

Entry Test and Merit

Most BS programs have no entry test. Open merit is calculated as 20% Matric/O-Level plus 80% Intermediate Part-I, DAE or AS-Level marks. Tests apply only where a regulator requires them: ECAT, the GCU test or other PEC-approved tests for BSc Electrical Engineering and BS Information Security Engineering Technology, the HEC LAT for LLB, and practical or fitness tests for BFA and Physical Education. Hifz-e-Quran earns 20 extra marks after an oral test.

The official fee page lists BS fees as two installments per year rather than per semester. Examples for Year 1 (Morning): BS Computer Science approximately Rs. 136,150 and Rs. 100,150; BS Economics approximately Rs. 70,050 and Rs. 43,550; BS Management approximately Rs. 152,850 and Rs. 116,850.
