The University of Peshawar (UoP) and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) are two of the largest and oldest public universities in Pakistan. Both run big BS intakes every Fall, both are heavily subsidized by the government, and both attract students from across their provinces and beyond. Yet they are very different institutions. This comparison looks at history, intake process, entry tests, verified fees and campuses so that you can decide which one suits your goals. Profiles of each are available on our University of Peshawar page and UAF Faisalabad page.

History and Identity
The University of Peshawar was established in 1950, shortly after independence, as the first university of what is now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is a general university covering arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, management and more. Many colleges and institutes in the region are affiliated with it.
UAF traces its roots to 1906, when the Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute was founded in Lyallpur, today’s Faisalabad. It became a full university in 1961. Although it is best known for agriculture, UAF today has nine faculties, including Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Sciences, Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Social Sciences, Food Nutrition and Home Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Programs and Who Each University Suits
If you are undecided about your field, the University of Peshawar’s breadth is attractive. With more than 45 BS disciplines in one place, you can find everything from English literature and economics to physics, computer science and pharmacy under one administration. The official BS brochure on uop.edu.pk lists every department and its eligibility.
UAF is the stronger choice if your interest lies in agriculture, food science, veterinary and animal sciences, agricultural engineering or related fields, where it has decades of research depth. It also offers BS programs in sciences, social sciences, humanities and health sciences, so students outside agriculture are not excluded, but its reputation is built on the agricultural faculties.
Intake and Application Process
University of Peshawar
BS admissions are handled by the Directorate of Admissions through its Admission Management Information System (AMIS). Admissions open for the Fall semester and the official BS brochure gives the schedule, department-wise eligibility and the application steps. Departments prepare merit lists based on the rules in the brochure.
UAF Faisalabad
UAF applications are submitted online at admissions.uaf.edu.pk. Merit lists are displayed on web.uaf.edu.pk, and selected students generate their fee voucher through appserver1.uaf.edu.pk. The process is fully online up to the fee stage, which is convenient for students applying from other cities. Follow current notices on our admissions page.
Entry Tests: A Key Difference
This is one of the biggest practical differences between the two universities.
The University of Peshawar does not state a single university-wide entry test for BS admission. Individual departments may have their own requirements, so you should read the department section of the official brochure rather than assume there is no test at all.
UAF, in contrast, conducts its own entrance test and holds it several times in each admission cycle. For the 2026-27 cycle the test dates were 5 July, 2 August and 30 August 2026, with registration for the final sitting from 12 to 24 August. Having multiple sittings means a student who performs poorly in the first attempt may try again in the same cycle, if the rules allow. Compare test patterns on our entry tests page and estimate your position with the merit calculator.
Fee Comparison
Both universities are public and subsidized, but the level of published detail differs.
For Fall 2026 the University of Peshawar published approximate BS fee ranges: around PKR 19,400 to 54,500 per semester for subsidized seats, PKR 22,900 to 70,000 per semester for regular or new programs, and PKR 61,800 to 80,000 for the first semester in institute or college programs. A refundable security deposit of PKR 5,000 is also charged. The exact figure depends on the department, so check the brochure for your program.
UAF has not published a public fee table in the same way. Fee amounts appear on the voucher generated after selection, and they vary by degree and seat category. We therefore cannot give verified UAF figures here; students should check the official website or contact the admissions office. For help with costs at either university, see our scholarships page.
Campuses and Location
The University of Peshawar operates from its large main campus in Peshawar, which also houses several affiliated institutes and colleges. For students from the Peshawar valley this means a single location with hostels, libraries and sports facilities.
UAF has its main campus in Faisalabad and sub-campuses in Toba Tek Singh, Depalpur and Burewala. These sub-campuses bring UAF degrees closer to students in central and southern Punjab, often at a lower living cost than the main city. Program choice at sub-campuses is narrower than at the main campus, so check which degrees are offered where.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which university is better for BS Computer Science?
Both offer computing programs, but the right choice depends on your location, budget and whether you want a general campus (Peshawar) or a science and agriculture oriented campus (UAF). Compare the department pages and fee details before deciding.
Do I need an entry test for the University of Peshawar?
There is no stated university-wide test for BS admission, but some departments may have their own requirements. Read the department section in the official BS brochure to confirm.
Can I apply to both universities in the same year?
Yes. Both have separate application systems and Fall intakes, so many students apply to both and choose after merit lists are announced. Keep track of each deadline carefully.
