PIEAS Entry Test 2026-27

About This Entry Test

PIEAS runs one of the most selective undergraduate entry tests in Pakistan. Unlike most engineering universities, it does not accept ECAT, NTS NAT or HEC HAT scores for domestic applicants; every candidate must sit the PIEAS written test. This guide summarises what the official admissions site says about the 2026-27 cycle and how to prepare. For the full university background read the PIEAS university profile.

Which Test Is Required

All six BS programs (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy & Materials Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences, and Physics) require the PIEAS written test. The institute holds two sittings each year — a first test in April (18 cities) and a second test in July (six cities). You may appear in both and the better score is used. Overseas Pakistanis may instead apply on SAT II (minimum 2000 in Physics, Mathematics Level 2 and Chemistry/Biology) or ACT composite (minimum 25) against a small number of seats.

Test Pattern

The official leaflet describes the test as multiple-choice questions on Physics, Mathematics and either Chemistry or Computer Science. For pre-medical applicants to BS Physics or Computer and Information Sciences, Mathematics is tested at SSC/O-Level standard. Eligibility

  • At least 60% marks in both SSC/O-Level and HSSC/A-Level (or equivalent).
  • Engineering programs: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (pre-engineering) or Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science (ICS); pre-medical students with an additional Mathematics paper may also apply.
  • BS Physics and BS Computer and Information Sciences: pre-engineering, pre-medical or ICS backgrounds are accepted.
  • DAE holders may apply to engineering programs under PEC policy.
  • Result-awaiting candidates may apply but must show 60% in HSSC at the time of joining.

Registration and Fee

Register online at https://admissions.pieas.edu.pk/. The 2026 application fee is Rs. 3,500, or Rs. 4,000 if paid with late fee within two weeks of the deadline; it is non-refundable. Schedule

Official 2026 cycle dates (now closed): portal opened 8 February 2026; first test deadline 26 March (late 1 April); first test 12 April; first test result 24 April; second test deadline 30 June; second test 12 July; merit numbers 20 July; merit lists 27 July to 1 September; joining 7 September 2026. Merit Formula

The official leaflet weights the PIEAS written test at 60% (percentile based), with SSC and HSSC Part I marks making up the balance. The leaflet’s printed lines for SSC, HSSC and O/A-Level do not add up cleanly, so treat the exact split as something to confirm with admissions@pieas.edu.pk. There are no quota seats.

Preparation Tips

  • Work through the full FSc Physics and Mathematics syllabus; PIEAS questions reward conceptual understanding over memorised formulas.
  • Decide early between Chemistry and Computer Science as your third section and stick with it.
  • Practise timed MCQ sets so that you can pace yourself across all sections.
  • Treat the April test as a serious attempt, not a rehearsal — a strong first score removes pressure from the July sitting.
  • Keep your SSC and HSSC marksheets handy; academic marks still carry roughly 40% of merit.
