If you are a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa student aiming at engineering or medical admission, the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) is the body you will deal with. ETEA conducts the engineering entry test used by the University of Peshawar’s neighbouring UET Peshawar and other KP engineering institutions, and historically the medical entry test for KP public-sector medical and dental colleges, in coordination with the national MDCAT framework. This guide explains how each test works, how ETEA registration differs from other testing bodies, and how to prepare.
ETEA’s public website lists general procedures and fee tables for recruitment tests, but the specific engineering and medical entry test pattern, marks and dates are published in the advertisement for each test. Where this guide cannot cite a figure from etea.edu.pk, it tells you to check the official website.
Which Test Do You Need?
| Goal | Test | Who accepts it |
| BSc Engineering in KP public universities | ETEA Engineering Entry Test | UET Peshawar and its campuses, UET Mardan, other KP engineering institutions as per their notices |
| MBBS or BDS in KP | MDCAT (national) as regulated by PMDC; ETEA has administered the KP paper in past cycles | KP public and private medical and dental colleges |
| BS programmes at University of Peshawar | ETEA Entrance Test for UoP BS programmes | University of Peshawar |
The MDCAT row matters: since the national MDCAT framework, the conducting agency for KP has been decided each year. Read our MDCAT guide and the PMDC notice for the current year before assuming ETEA will run it.
ETEA Engineering Entry Test
The engineering test is a multiple-choice paper on the FSc Pre-Engineering syllabus of the KP boards: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English. The number of questions, marks per question and whether negative marking applies are stated in the test advertisement; past papers have used negative marking, so confirm the current rule on the official website. The score is combined with matric and intermediate marks to form the merit used by UET Peshawar; the weightages are in the UET Peshawar prospectus.
What ETEA says about preparation material
ETEA states on its website that it has not published any reference book of model MCQs for entrance test preparation and has not collaborated with any institution for that purpose. Source: https://etea.edu.pk. Any book sold as official ETEA material is not official.
ETEA Medical Entry Test and MDCAT
For medical and dental admission, the paper follows the MDCAT syllabus set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Logical Reasoning. The passing requirement, question count and negative marking policy come from the PMDC notice for the year, not from ETEA. When ETEA conducts the KP sitting, registration happens on the platform named in that year’s notice, which may be ETEA’s portal or PMDC’s. Always start from pmdc.pk and follow its link.
Registration With ETEA
ETEA’s process is more paper-based than NTS or NUST. The general steps described on its website are below; the specific entry test advertisement may vary them.
- Download the application form free of charge from etea.edu.pk when the test is advertised.
- Fill it in as instructed on the form and the advertisement.
- Deposit the test fee online at a branch of UBL, ABL, MCB or HBL; the amount for entry tests is stated in the advertisement (the fee table on the site refers to recruitment posts, not entrance tests).
- Submit the form to the ETEA address with the fee receipt, or complete the online application where one is offered; corrections to an online application are allowed up to the closing date.
- Download the roll number slip when ETEA releases it and check your centre.

Keep your own copy of everything
Because part of the ETEA process can involve a physical form and a bank deposit, keep a photocopy of the filled form, the original deposit slip and a photo of both on your phone. If your name is missing from the roll number list, these are the documents ETEA’s office will ask for. The same habit helps at the university admission stage, which our documents checklist covers in detail.
Preparation Plan
This eight-week plan is written for the engineering test; medical candidates should replace Mathematics with Biology and add Logical Reasoning in week six.
| Week | Focus | Daily target |
| 1 to 2 | Mathematics Part I and II from KP board textbooks | Two chapters, 40 MCQs |
| 3 to 4 | Physics Part I and II; formula sheet; exercise numericals | Two chapters, 40 MCQs |
| 5 | Chemistry Part I and II; organic reactions and periodic trends | Two chapters, 40 MCQs |
| 6 | English grammar and vocabulary; past paper style questions | 20 words, 30 MCQs |
| 7 | Full timed mocks; error log analysis | One mock every second day |
| 8 | Weak chapters only; confirm roll slip and centre; adjust sleep schedule | Error log review |
Exam Day Checklist
- Printed admit card or roll number slip (plus a second copy on your phone, though you may not be allowed to use the phone inside)
- Original CNIC, B-Form or the ID document named on your admit card
- Two or three blue or black ballpoint pens; no calculators or notes unless the admit card says otherwise
- Reach the centre well before the reporting time printed on your slip
- Light breakfast and a bottle of water for the waiting area, as food is usually not allowed inside the hall
- Confirm the exact venue a day earlier; many centres are on large campuses and the block number matters
- Leave mobile phones, smartwatches and bags with a family member or at the designated counter
- Carry the ETEA roll number slip and the fee receipt copy in case of a query
- Bring the specific ID document named in the ETEA advertisement; a B-Form may be required for younger candidates
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Buying books marketed as official ETEA MCQs; ETEA says it has published none.
- Confusing the recruitment-test fee table on the ETEA site with the entrance test fee.
- Assuming ETEA will conduct MDCAT for KP without reading the PMDC notice for the year.
- Missing the physical submission deadline when the form must be posted to ETEA.
- Guessing every question without knowing whether negative marking applies this year.
- Preparing from Punjab board textbooks when the paper follows KP board editions.
FAQs
Does ETEA publish model MCQs?
No. ETEA states it has not published any reference book of model MCQs and has not collaborated with any institution for that purpose. Source: https://etea.edu.pk.
What is the ETEA engineering test fee?
The fee is set in the advertisement for each test. The fee table on the website (Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,500) applies to recruitment posts, not entrance tests. Check the official website.
Is there negative marking in the ETEA test?
Past engineering papers have used negative marking, but the rule for the current year is in the advertisement. Confirm it there.
Can Punjab or Sindh students take the ETEA engineering test?
Eligibility and domicile rules are set by the admitting university, not ETEA. Read the UET Peshawar admission notice.
Where do I check my ETEA result?
Results are posted on etea.edu.pk and usually sent by SMS to the registered number.
