BS English (Applied Linguistics) at the University of Sindh is a specialised language-science track within the Faculty of Arts in Jamshoro. The Admissions 2027 advertisement lists it separately from the literature programme.
Program Overview
Applied linguistics studies how language is learned, used and taught: phonetics and phonology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, second-language acquisition and corpus methods. Unlike the literature degree, the focus is scientific and analytical rather than literary. It suits students interested in how languages work, in multilingual Pakistan’s language policy, and in careers in language teaching, assessment or research.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates with an intermediate certificate in any stream can apply. Final admission depends on the university pre-entry test (minimum 40%) and the merit position; consult the prospectus for seat distribution and percentage rules.
Per the Admissions 2027 advertisement, a minimum of 40% in the university’s own pre-entry test is compulsory for bachelor-level admission, and those awaiting HSC-II results can register (Source: Admissions 2027 advertisement).
Admission Process
There is no separate departmental application for BS English (Applied Linguistics); everything goes through the Sindh University admission portal. The 2027 advertisement lists online registration from 10 August to 11 September 2026, a Rs. 3,000 processing fee payable through HBL or 1-Bill, and pre-entry test dates of 4 and 11 October 2026 (Source: advertisement_2027.pdf). After the merit list is displayed, selected applicants pay the admission fee within the deadline and deliver the printed form and original transcripts to the Directorate of Admissions in Jamshoro.
Our University of Sindh Undergraduate Admissions 2026-27 record tracks the schedule, and the University of Sindh entry test page explains the pre-entry test format.
Fee Structure
Fees for this programme are set by the university and listed on the Fees Structure page and in the prospectus (Prospectus 2026). We do not quote a semester figure here because it could not be verified from the official page at the time of writing; the Rs. 3,000 processing fee stated in the 2027 advertisement is the only confirmed amount. Check the official website before budgeting.
Career Scope in Pakistan
Graduates work as language teachers and teacher trainers, ESL curriculum designers, material developers for textbook boards and publishers, translators and interpreters, and language analysts in research institutes. The demand for IELTS and English-proficiency trainers is strong in Hyderabad and Karachi. An MPhil in Linguistics leads to university teaching and research.
