BS Computer Science at the NUST university profile is a four-year undergraduate degree offered by the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) at the H-12 campus in Islamabad. The same programme is also run at NUST Balochistan Campus in Quetta and at PNEC Karachi, which makes it one of the most widely available NUST degrees for intermediate students across Pakistan.

Program Overview

Computer science at NUST covers the core of the discipline: programming and data structures, algorithms, computer organisation, operating systems, databases, software engineering, computer networks and theory of computation, with elective tracks in areas such as machine learning, cloud computing and cyber security in the final years. SEECS is known for research-active faculty and a strong final-year project culture, so the programme suits students who enjoy mathematics and problem solving and want a rigorous route into software development or graduate study.

Eligibility Criteria

The official eligibility page requires a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in both SSC (Matric) and HSSC (FSc or equivalent, with IBCC equivalence for foreign qualifications). For Computing programmes, including BS Computer Science, the HSSC group may be Pre-Engineering, Computer Science (ICS), or Pre-Medical; Pre-Medical candidates must clear 6 credit hours of deficient Mathematics within one year of admission. Candidates may sit NET on the basis of FSc Part-I results, but admission is confirmed only after the full certificate is produced. Admission Process

  1. Create an account on the undergraduate portal at ugadmissions.nust.edu.pk and register for a NET series in the Computing group.
  2. Pay the NET processing fee (amount published on the official processing-fee page) and book a computer-based test slot at H-12 or NBC Quetta.
  3. Take NET; if you attempt more than one series, the best score is used.
  4. Submit the admission application with programme preferences once the final NET series closes.
  5. Check the merit lists on the portal and complete fee submission and document verification at SEECS if selected.

Admission is through the NUST Entry Test (NET), a computer-based test held at the H-12 campus in Islamabad and at NBC Quetta (paper-based sittings are held in Karachi and Gilgit). For the Fall 2027 intake the official portal lists NET Series 1 registration from 4 October to 14 November 2026 with tests starting 17 November 2026, followed by further series through mid-2027; candidates may sit more than once and the best score counts. Applicants with ACT or SAT scores can also apply on that basis. Source: https://ugadmissions.nust.edu.pk/. See also our NUST entry test (NET) page.

Fee Structure

According to the official “Undergraduate Financial Matters” page for session 2026-27, the tuition fee for Engineering, Computing, Natural Sciences and Applied Sciences programmes is Rs. 216,750 per semester for national students, with a one-time non-refundable admission processing fee of Rs. 35,000, a refundable security deposit of Rs. 10,000 and miscellaneous charges of Rs. 5,000 per semester for sports, library, health and IT. The university states that all fees are subject to revision. Source: https://nust.edu.pk/admissions/fee-structure/undergraduate-financial-matters/. Need-based financial aid, fee deferment and interest-free loans are described on the NUST scholarships page.

Career Scope in Pakistan

NUST computer science graduates are regularly recruited by software houses in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, by banks and telecom operators building in-house engineering teams, and by export-oriented firms serving overseas clients. The research orientation of SEECS also prepares students for MS and PhD study at home and abroad. Start-ups, freelancing and public-sector IT roles are further options, though portfolio work matters as much as the degree title.
