The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore is one of the oldest and most sought-after engineering universities in Pakistan. Every summer, tens of thousands of FSc and ICS students compete for its seats. This guide collects the official Fall 2026 admission facts in one place: how to apply, who is eligible, what the ECAT looks like, how merit is made and what the fees are. Everything here is based on UET’s own admission portal; where a detail is not published, we tell you to check the official website rather than guess.
How to Apply: Online Only
UET Lahore accepts applications only online through its admission portal at admission.uet.edu.pk. There is no paper form and no admission office queue for applications. The process looks like this:
- Create an account on the portal with your email and CNIC or B-Form details.
- Fill in your personal, academic and domicile information carefully.
- Generate the fee challan of Rs 3,000 and pay it at any HBL or UBL branch.
- The paid challan number acts as your ECAT registration token. One fee covers both your application and your test registration.
- Select the programs you want. One fee covers multiple programs, so list every program you are genuinely interested in.
- Download your ECAT admit card from the portal when it becomes available.
For the Fall 2026 session the application window ran from 8 June to 15 July 2026. Future windows will be similar but not identical, so check the portal and our admissions section for the next announcement.
Eligibility Requirements
UET sets different minimum intermediate percentages for different groups of programs:
| Program group | Minimum Intermediate marks | ECAT required? |
|---|---|---|
| Engineering, Architecture, Computer Engineering | 60% | Yes |
| Computing (e.g. Computer Science) | 50% | Yes |
| Science programs | 50% | No |
| Business programs | 50% | No |
Two further points matter:
- Domicile: Open-merit seats are mainly for candidates with Punjab or Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) domicile. Students from other provinces should look for reserved or self-finance categories listed on the portal.
- Subject combination: Engineering programs normally require FSc Pre-Engineering (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) or an equivalent such as DAE in a relevant technology. Computing programs are usually open to ICS and Pre-Engineering students. Check the exact subject requirement for your program on the portal.
ECAT Format and Marking
ECAT is UET’s own entry test and it is compulsory for Engineering, Computing and Architecture applicants. The official format for 2026:
- Total marks: 400
- Duration: 100 minutes
- Marking: +4 marks for each correct answer
- No negative marking: wrong answers cost nothing
The absence of negative marking changes your strategy completely. You should answer every single question, even if you have to guess in the final minute. Work through the questions you know first, mark the doubtful ones, and return to them, but never leave a blank.
The ECAT paper is based on the FSc syllabus, with Physics, Mathematics, English and either Chemistry or Computer Science depending on your group. Your best preparation material is your own FSc textbooks. Past papers help you master timing: 400 marks in 100 minutes means you have very little time per question. For a comparison with other tests, read our article on ECAT vs NET vs NAT.
How UET Merit Is Calculated
UET calculates merit from two components: your Intermediate Part-I (first-year) marks and your ECAT score. The exact weightage of each component is published on the admission portal for the current session, and we recommend reading it directly from there rather than relying on figures circulating on social media.
Because the ECAT counts alongside your first-year result, two students with identical intermediate marks can end up on very different merit positions. A strong ECAT performance is the single most effective way to raise your position. Once you have the official weightage, use our merit calculator to estimate your aggregate and compare it with previous closing merits.
After the test, UET publishes merit lists on the portal. Selected candidates must complete fee payment and document verification within the stated deadline or the seat passes to the next candidate.
Fee Structure (Fall 2026 Portal)
UET’s Fall 2026 portal shows two fee categories, subsidized and partially subsidized, with the following approximate figures:
| Item | Subsidized | Partially subsidized |
|---|---|---|
| First-semester admission fee | ~Rs 54,050 | ~Rs 74,040 |
| Tuition (per semester) | ~Rs 56,290 | ~Rs 85,250 |
| Approximate 8-semester total | ~Rs 713,920 | ~Rs 1,085,430 |
Which category you fall in depends on the seat you are offered, and UET explains the categories on the portal. Fees are revised periodically, so treat these numbers as a guide for budgeting, not a quotation. If the cost is a concern, look at our scholarships section for need-based and merit-based options; UET and the Punjab government have offered various financial assistance schemes over the years.
Important Timeline and Checklist
Using Fall 2026 as the model, a typical UET admission year looks like this:
- June: Portal opens (8 June in 2026). Register, pay the Rs 3,000 challan and select programs.
- Mid-July: Portal closes (15 July in 2026). Make sure your form is complete and your challan is paid before this date.
- July to August: ECAT is conducted. Download your admit card in advance.
- August to September: Merit lists, fee deposit and document verification.
- Autumn: Classes begin.
Before you apply, keep these documents scanned and ready: Matric and Intermediate Part-I result cards, CNIC or B-Form, domicile certificate, recent photographs, and the paid challan. If your second-year result is not yet announced, the portal will tell you how to update it later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for both engineering and computer science with one fee?
Yes. UET’s Rs 3,000 fee covers multiple programs, so you can list engineering, computing and even business or science programs in a single application. Just remember that engineering and computing choices need an ECAT score.
Is there negative marking in ECAT?
No. Each correct answer gives +4 marks and wrong answers are not penalised. Attempt every question.
I have a Sindh or KPK domicile. Can I get an open-merit seat at UET Lahore?
Open-merit seats are mainly reserved for Punjab and ICT domicile holders. Candidates from other provinces should look for reserved seats or self-finance options on the portal, and may also consider engineering universities in their own province, such as NED University in Karachi. Browse our universities directory for more options.
