SMIU runs a Fall intake with a published calendar and has historically also opened a Spring intake in December. For Fall 2026 the first advertisement and online registration opened on 14 June 2026, registration closed on 15 July, the undergraduate admission test ran 21-23 July, interviews 28-30 July, the first merit list came out on 7 August with fee submission to 19 August, a second list on 26 August and classes started 7 September 2026 (Source). Applicants create an account on the portal with their CNIC, complete the form, pay the application processing fee voucher at any HBL branch and upload the paid challan and documents (Source). The processing fee amount is on the voucher — check the official website. See our SMIU Undergraduate Admissions 2026-27 record.
Entry Test and Merit
Undergraduate applicants sit SMIU’s own on-campus computer-based aptitude test followed by an interview; candidates holding a valid NTS NAT or GAT result are exempt from the test (Source). Minimum percentages range from 45% to 60% by programme — for example BS Computer Science (morning) requires 60% and BS Software Engineering 55% (Source). The weightage of test, interview and academic marks is not published on the pages we reviewed. Details are on our SMIU Entry Test 2026-27 page.
Fee Structure
SMIU’s fee structure effective from Spring 2024 uses per-credit-hour tuition. Examples: BS Computer Science (morning) — admission fee Rs. 10,000, tuition Rs. 3,000 per credit hour, total first-semester payment Rs. 78,750; BS Software Engineering (morning) Rs. 85,500 at admission; BS Artificial Intelligence, IT, Cyber Security and Data Science Rs. 2,300 per credit hour with about Rs. 67,050-67,550 due at admission; BBA (morning) Rs. 73,500; BS English, Education, Economics and Sociology Rs. 1,500 per credit hour with about Rs. 56,500 due at admission. The first-semester total includes a Rs. 10,000 security deposit, registration, lab/library, activity and examination charges (Source). Evening sections carry a Rs. 8,000 admission fee. Confirm the current challan before paying.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
SMIU maintains a scholarships page under the Students section of its website; the specific schemes are not listed on the pages we could verify, so check the official website. Students at public universities in Sindh commonly apply for the HEC need-based and Sindh Education Endowment Fund schemes — see our scholarships archive.
Campuses
SMIU operates from its historic main campus on Aiwan-e-Tijarat Road, Karachi. No sub-campuses are listed on the official website; our campuses archive will reflect any change.
Why Students Choose SMIU
SMIU combines a central Karachi location and a landmark heritage campus with public-sector fees that are lower than most private universities for computing and business degrees. Its fixed, published admission calendar makes planning easier, and the NTS exemption helps students who already hold a NAT score. Compare with University of Karachi and Dow University.
