University of Baltistan Skardu

The University of Baltistan, Skardu (UoBS) is a public university in Skardu, the capital of the Baltistan division of Gilgit-Baltistan. Set up in 2017 by upgrading the Skardu campus of Karakoram International University, it is the only chartered university in Baltistan and describes itself as “empowering minds at the roof of the world”. UoBS runs three faculties with eleven departments and affiliates colleges in Skardu, Khaplu and Gilgit. It is recognised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Source: uobs.edu.pk.

Admission Process

UoBS admits in both Fall (all UG and PG programmes) and Spring (selected programmes). Under the published 2025-26 schedule, Fall applications opened on 20 July with a 30 August deadline, merit list on 10 September and classes from 15 September; Spring applications opened on 20 December, closed 30 January, with merit on 10 February and classes from 15 February. The university notes that dates may change. The undergraduate application fee is Rs. 1,000 (Rs. 1,500 for postgraduate). Applications are filed on the UoBS admission portal with scanned certificates, CNIC/B-Form, domicile and photographs; eight passport photos and a character certificate are also required. Entry Test and Merit

UoBS uses a university entry test combined with academic record: the official admissions page states that the entry test carries 30% weight and academic merit 70%, with interviews for selected programmes. Scholarships and Financial Aid

The admissions page lists need-based financial aid, merit scholarships, HEC scholarships and special-quota scholarships, without amounts. Gilgit-Baltistan students are also eligible for the HEC need-based and PM Undergraduate schemes. See our scholarship listings.

UoBS has a single Main Campus in Skardu. Its affiliated colleges are located in Skardu, Khaplu, Gilgit, Jutial and Danyore.

Why Students Choose University of Baltistan

For students of Skardu, Shigar, Kharmang, Ghanche and Rondu, UoBS is the only route to an HEC-recognised degree without moving to Gilgit, Islamabad or Lahore, and its per-credit-hour fee is among the lowest in the country.
