Month-by-Month University Admission Calendar for Intermediate Students in Pakistan

Month-by-month guide for Pakistani intermediate students: when entry tests, applications, merit lists and Fall classes usually happen.

Student submitting an online university application

Most students start thinking about university only after their intermediate Part-II result. By then, several important deadlines have already passed. The admission cycle in Pakistan actually begins more than a year earlier, and some universities close applications for the next Fall intake before you even sit your final exams. This calendar walks you through a typical year, from Part-I results to the first day of classes, so that you always know what to do next.

One important note before you begin: universities announce new dates every year, and they shift by weeks depending on board results, holidays and policy changes. The dates mentioned here are taken from recent official announcements and are given only as examples of when things usually happen. Always confirm the current year’s schedule on each university’s official website and on our admissions pages.

The Big Picture: Two Intakes and One Long Cycle

Pakistani universities mainly admit students for the Fall semester, which begins between late August and early October. Some, such as COMSATS University Islamabad, also run a Spring intake. COMSATS Fall classes usually begin in the first week of September, and Spring classes in the first week of February. Spring intakes typically offer fewer programs and seats, so Fall remains the main target for intermediate students.

The cycle for a Fall intake looks roughly like this: test registration in spring, tests in early summer, applications and merit lists in July and August, and classes from late August to October. Private universities with their own admission systems can run much earlier. LUMS, for example, set its application deadline for Fall 2027 undergraduate admission at 20 January 2027, which is seven to eight months before classes begin and well before most intermediate students have their final results.

September to December: Part-I Results and Early Planning

Intermediate Part-I results are usually declared by the boards between late summer and autumn, as you begin your second year. This is the time to start planning rather than to start applying.

  • Shortlist fields and universities. Use the universities directory to compare programs, fees and recognition status.
  • Check last year’s closing merits. Compare them with your Part-I marks using our merit calculator to see where you realistically stand.
  • Fix document problems now. Name spelling mismatches between NADRA and board records, a missing domicile certificate, or a pending CNIC can all take months to resolve.
  • Start entry test preparation. Students targeting engineering, medical or NUST style tests should begin steady preparation in these months rather than cramming in June.
  • Watch for early private university deadlines. If you are considering LUMS or similar institutions, note that their deadlines fall in winter, so you will apply on Part-I marks and predicted results.

January to March: Early Deadlines and Test Registrations Begin

  • January: Early private university deadlines, such as the LUMS Fall 2027 deadline of 20 January 2027, fall here. Some universities also open early registration for their first entry test series.
  • February: Spring semester classes begin at universities with Spring intakes, such as COMSATS in the first week of February. For Fall applicants this is mainly a preparation month.
  • March: Engineering universities start announcing. NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi, for example, has advertised its undergraduate admissions in late March in recent cycles. Read the advertisement carefully for test dates, eligibility and the documents you will need.

At the same time, your own Part-II board exams approach. Balance test preparation with board revision; both your intermediate marks and your test score feed into the final aggregate at most universities.

April to June: Board Exams, Applications Open, Tests Start

Intermediate Part-II exams are generally held between April and June, depending on the board. During and immediately after your exams, the admission season gets busy.

  • June is the key month for public universities. Quaid-i-Azam University usually opens its Fall admissions in June. UET Lahore accepted Fall 2026 applications from 8 June to 15 July 2026. Many other public universities open portals in June and July.
  • Engineering entry tests run June to July. NED’s test window has fallen in June and July, and other engineering universities hold their tests in the same season. Check the exact test schedule in the official advertisement.
  • Agricultural and general universities begin their test series. University of Agriculture Faisalabad announced entrance tests on 5 July, 2 August and 30 August 2026, which shows how a university may run several test sittings across the summer.
  • Apply with Part-I marks if your result is pending. Most universities let you apply on Part-I marks with a hope certificate; keep a copy of your admit card and roll number slip ready.

Use our entry test guides to track registration windows, because many tests close registration two to four weeks before the test date.

July to August: Results, Merit Lists and Fee Deadlines

This is the most stressful stretch of the year. Boards begin announcing Part-II results, application portals close, and universities display their merit lists in quick succession.

  • Mid-July: Deadlines close at many universities (UET Lahore closed on 15 July in 2026). NED has displayed its merit list around mid-July in recent cycles.
  • Late July to August: First, second and third merit lists appear at most public universities, each followed by a short fee-payment window. If you miss the window, your seat goes to the next candidate.
  • Early August: Second test sittings at universities that run multiple tests, such as UAF’s 2 August 2026 test.
  • Mid-August: Classes begin at some universities; NED has started classes in mid-August in recent cycles. Document verification and orientation take place around this time.
  • Late August: Final test sittings and late admissions, such as UAF’s 30 August 2026 test. Universities with vacant seats announce additional merit lists.

Keep your complete, attested document file ready before July. Our documents checklist explains exactly what to prepare. Also submit scholarship applications in this window; see the scholarships section for programs with deadlines that coincide with admission.

September to October: Classes Begin and Late Admissions

  • First week of September: Fall classes begin at COMSATS and many other universities.
  • September: Universities whose board results came late may still display merit lists. If you did not get your first choice, this is the time to look at self-support programs, sub-campuses and universities with later sessions.
  • October: Most universities have started classes. Late admission against vacant seats sometimes continues, usually with a late fee. Students who missed Fall can begin planning for a Spring intake where available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply before my Part-II result is announced?

Yes, in most cases. Universities accept applications on Part-I marks with a hope certificate, and your admission is confirmed once the final result meets the required threshold. This is also how students meet the very early deadlines of some private universities.

Why do private university deadlines fall so early?

Universities with holistic admissions, interviews and financial aid reviews need months to process applications, so they close applications in winter for a Fall intake. Missing such a deadline means waiting a full year, so note them in your first year of intermediate.

What if I miss the Fall intake entirely?

Look for universities with a Spring intake (classes typically from February), late admissions against vacant seats, or affiliated colleges of public universities that admit later. Use the gap to improve your entry test score for the next cycle.
