Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) is a public-sector engineering university in Karachi, Sindh. Its foundation stone was laid in 1962 as Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, and the institution was later upgraded to a full university (Source). DUET is known for engineering specialisations that are rare elsewhere in Sindh — Petroleum and Gas, Metallurgy and Materials, Chemical and Industrial Engineering — plus a growing computing faculty and a B.Arch programme. It appears on the HEC recognised-universities list as a public university (Source).

Admission Process
DUET admits undergraduate students once a year for the Fall intake, with postgraduate admissions announced separately. The official admissions page sets out the route: read the current advertisement, submit the online form with scanned academic documents, CNIC or B-Form and a photograph, pay the application processing fee, then appear for the test and check the merit list (Source). Required documents include matric and intermediate marksheets, CNIC/B-Form and a domicile certificate. The processing fee amount is not stated on the pages we reviewed — check the official website. Cycle dates are in our DUET Undergraduate Admissions 2026-27 record.
Entry Test and Merit
Admission to BE, BS and B.Arch programmes is based on DUET’s own entry test, held in Karachi with a Sukkur centre for the Rohri-based CEMET programmes. The test pattern and merit weightage are not published on the pages we could verify, so confirm them in the prospectus. See our DUET Entry Test 2026-27 guide for eligibility, schedule and preparation tips.

DUET publishes its fee regulations (applicable from Batch 2020 onward) on the official site. Local students pay Rs. 16,000 at admission (admission fee 10,000, enrolment 3,000, document verification 2,500, identity card 500) and Rs. 16,000 per semester (tuition 7,000, games 1,000, development 2,000, transport 2,000, examination 2,000, laboratory/studio 1,000, library 1,000). Foreign students pay USD 500 at admission and USD 250 per semester. The university says the current challan on the portal is authoritative, so confirm before paying.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
The admissions page states that need-based and merit scholarships, along with departmental financial assistance, are available to enrolled students (Source). Students can also apply for national schemes such as the HEC need-based programme; see our scholarships archive.
Campuses
The main campus is on M.A. Jinnah Road, Karachi. The 2026 admission advertisement, as reported, also offered selected disciplines at the CEMET campus in Rohri, Sukkur; confirm the current campus list on the official portal.
Why Students Choose DUET
Students pick DUET for low public-sector fees in central Karachi and for niche engineering fields with strong industry links, such as petroleum, chemical and materials engineering. The PEC-accredited BE programmes and the newer computing BS degrees give a wide choice under one roof. Compare with University of Karachi and NUST.
