Hamdard University

Hamdard University is a private university founded in 1991 by Hakim Mohammed Said through the Hamdard Foundation, with its main campus at Madinat al-Hikmah on the outskirts of Karachi, Sindh. It is known for a broad mix of faculties, from engineering and computing to medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, eastern medicine, law and management, and for comparatively moderate private-sector fees. Hamdard University appears on the HEC recognised universities list, and its FAQ page states that all its degree programs are HEC recognised.

Admission Process

Hamdard admits twice a year. According to the official FAQ, the Spring intake commences in November and the Fall intake in May, though the live portal in October 2026 still carried a Fall 2026 banner. The steps are:

Create an account on the admission portal, choose campus (Karachi or Islamabad), program and preferences.
Pay the online application processing fee of Rs. 1,500 via the UBL voucher (the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology is excluded from this figure; check the official website for its fee).
Download the admit card and sit the Hamdard University admission test.
Attend the interview if shortlisted; SAT I above 1900 or GMAT above 600 exempts you from the test but not the interview.
Pay the admission and first-semester fees to confirm your seat.

Entry Test and Merit

Why Students Choose Hamdard University

Hamdard offers one of the widest program menus among Karachi’s private universities at fee levels below many competitors, and its engineering and pharmacy faculties have long track records. The main campus is far from the city centre, so transport is a practical consideration.
