If you finished intermediate this year and did not get a seat you are happy with, the Spring semester is your second chance without losing a full year. Pakistan’s universities split into two camps: most large public universities (Punjab, Karachi, Peshawar, Sindh, QAU) admit once a year for Fall, while a sizeable group of federal, private and semester-system universities run a second intake that begins in January or February. Knowing which camp your target university belongs to decides whether you should be preparing an application now or planning for next summer.
This article separates two kinds of information clearly. The first is verified: dates that appear on an official university page as of 19 October 2026, each with a source link. The second is typical timing based on the previous cycle, which we label as such so that you plan around it without mistaking it for a confirmed deadline. For the current state of every window, read our list of admissions open right now.
Who Admits in Spring and Who Does Not
The table below reflects standard practice at each institution. A university that “usually” admits in Spring has done so in recent cycles but may not open every programme; engineering and medical programmes in particular are often Fall-only even at Spring-intake universities.
| University | Spring intake? | Status for Spring 2027 (19 Oct 2026) |
| Bahria University (Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi) | Yes, regular | Officially announced; full plan published |
| NUST | No Spring undergraduate intake; NET series run through the year for the Fall intake | NET Series 1 (2027 cycle) registration open until 14 Nov 2026 |
| COMSATS University Islamabad | Yes, regular (NAT-based) | Not yet announced on the official admissions site |
| Virtual University of Pakistan | Yes, regular | Not yet announced on vu.edu.pk |
| Allama Iqbal Open University | Yes (Spring semester, usually opens in the new year) | Not yet announced |
| Air University, Riphah, UMT, UCP, SZABIST, Iqra, NUML, IIUI | Usually yes for most BS programmes | Not verified for this article; check each official site |
| University of the Punjab, University of Karachi, University of Peshawar, QAU | No; annual intake | Karachi’s annual 2027 open-merit BS portal is open now |
| UET Lahore | Spring undergraduate admissions have been offered (Spring 2026 notice published Dec 2025) | No Spring 2027 schedule on the portal yet |
Verified Spring 2027 Dates (Official Sources Only)
Bahria University
Bahria’s published Admission Plan for Spring 2027 is the most complete official schedule available right now. Phase I admissions close on 17 December 2026 for the Islamabad E-8 and H-11 campuses, the Health Sciences campus Islamabad and the Lahore campus, with the Bahria University Entry Test (BUET) from 19 December 2026. The Karachi campus closes earlier, on 16 November 2026, with BUET on 18 November 2026; the Health Sciences Karachi / PNNC and IPP columns close on 10 December 2026. A Phase II BUET is scheduled for 16 January 2027 (15 January 2027 at Karachi). Weekend classes commence 22 January 2027 and regular classes 25 January 2027. The separate DPT line at Health Sciences Karachi closes on 22 October 2026, with a test from 24 October and results on 30 October 2026. NUST (for students who think NET is a Spring admission)
NUST does not run a Spring undergraduate intake. What is open now is NET Series 1 of the 2027 test cycle: registration 4 October to 14 November 2026, computer-based test from 17 November 2026 in Islamabad. Series 2 registration is scheduled for December 2026 to January 2027, Series 3 for February to March 2027, and Series 4 for April to May 2027, all for the single autumn 2027 intake. NUST marks this schedule as tentative. Source: https://nust.edu.pk/admissions/undergraduates/dates-to-remember/.
Universities on an annual (not Spring) cycle with portals open now
The University of Karachi has opened its Open Merit Admissions 2027 portal for BS 1st Year and 3rd Year intake, with classes starting in the new calendar year. Source: https://www.uokadmission.edu.pk/. The University of Sindh completed its 2027 registration on 11 September 2026 and held pre-entry tests on 4 and 11 October 2026. Typical Windows From the Previous Cycle (Not Yet Confirmed for 2027)
Use these only to plan your preparation. None of them is a 2027 deadline.
| University | Previous Spring cycle (verified) | What that suggests for Spring 2027 |
| UET Lahore | Spring 2026 undergraduate notice posted 17 Dec 2025; last date 22 Dec 2025; first merit list 16 Jan 2026; fee and document deadline 22 Jan 2026 (admission.uet.edu.pk, as reproduced on ilmkidunya) | Watch admission.uet.edu.pk from early December; windows are short |
| Virtual University | Spring 2026 admissions opened 5 Jan 2026 with last date 20 Feb 2026 (APP report) | Expect a January opening; check vu.edu.pk |
| COMSATS | Spring intakes have historically used NTS NAT; schedule not verified here | Register for a NAT sitting now so a valid score is ready; see our NAT guide |
| AIOU | Autumn 2026 late-fee deadline reported as 5 Oct 2026 | Spring semester admissions usually follow in the new year; check aiou.edu.pk |
How to Prepare for a Spring Application in October and November
- Shortlist two or three Spring-intake universities and bookmark their official admissions pages; do not rely on aggregator sites for deadlines.
- Get your intermediate result card, equivalence certificate (for A-levels, via IBCC) and domicile ready. Our documents checklist lists everything.
- If your target uses a third-party test (NTS NAT for COMSATS, for example), sit it early; score reporting takes time.
- If you also want a Fall 2027 shot at NUST, register for NET Series 1 now; it does not conflict with a Spring application elsewhere.
- Work out your merit using our merit calculation guide so you apply to programmes where you are competitive.
- Plan the money: Spring applicants pay admission and first-semester fees in January, often within a week of the merit list.
Spring vs Fall: Is There a Catch?
Academically, a Spring degree is identical; HEC does not distinguish between intakes, and the semester count is the same. The practical differences are smaller cohorts, fewer programme options (especially in engineering and health sciences), and graduation in the “off” semester, which can matter for employers’ campus hiring cycles and for applying to Fall-intake master’s programmes abroad. Scholarships are sometimes allocated mainly in Fall, so check the scholarships archive and the university’s own financial aid page before deciding. On the other hand, a Spring start beats losing a year, and merit thresholds for the same programme can be slightly lower because fewer students apply.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Assuming your Fall-only public university will “open again” in January; Punjab, Peshawar and QAU do not.
- Confusing NUST NET registration with a Spring admission.
- Waiting for a Spring announcement without sitting the entry test the university will ask for.
- Picking a programme because it is the only one open in Spring rather than because it fits you.
- Ignoring campus-wise closing dates, as in Bahria’s plan where Karachi closes a month before Islamabad.
- Forgetting to verify the programme’s HEC status; see how to check a recognised degree.
FAQs
Which Pakistani universities have officially announced Spring 2027 admissions?
As of 19 October 2026, Bahria University has published a full Spring 2027 plan. We could not verify an official Spring 2027 schedule for COMSATS, VU, AIOU, Air, Riphah, UMT, UCP, SZABIST, Iqra or NUML; check their official sites.
Does COMSATS admit in Spring 2027?
COMSATS regularly runs a Spring intake, but no Spring 2027 announcement was visible on its official admissions site when we checked. Prepare a NAT score in the meantime.
Can I apply to NUST for Spring 2027?
No. NUST admits undergraduates once a year. Registering for NET Series 1 now puts you in the running for the autumn 2027 intake. Source: https://nust.edu.pk/admissions/undergraduates/dates-to-remember/.
When do Spring 2027 classes usually start?
Bahria’s plan gives 22 and 25 January 2027. Other universities typically start in late January or February, but you should check the official academic calendar for each.
Will a Spring admission affect my degree or scholarships?
The degree is the same. Some scholarships and campus placements are weighted toward the Fall cohort, so check the university’s financial aid office before committing.
