University Merit List Schedules 2026-27: Dates and Next Steps

Verified merit list, fee deadline and class start dates for Pakistani universities 2026-27, plus what to do after the list: fees, verification, waiting.

The merit list is where an application turns into a seat, and it is also where most seats are lost. Every year students who comfortably made the list fail to pay the fee by the deadline, miss document verification, or do not realise that a second or third list could have taken them. This guide collects the merit-list, fee-submission and class-start dates that universities have actually published for the 2026-27 cycle, and then walks through exactly what to do in the days after your name appears, or does not.

We only include dates that we could trace to an official notice or admission plan, each with a source link. For many universities the Fall 2026 lists are already history and only the next cycle matters; where a university has not yet published a schedule we say “check the official website” rather than estimate. For live windows see which admissions are open right now, and for how your number is computed read how university merit is calculated.

Two patterns stand out. Where a university publishes a complete plan (Bahria, UoG) the gap between the merit list and the fee deadline is two to five days. And several big public universities now use first-come-first-served or rolling allotment for late phases (Punjab University Phase 2 is explicit about this: the time you generate your fee challan decides your place). How Merit Lists Work: The Sequence

  1. The university closes applications and computes an aggregate for every eligible applicant from matric, intermediate and (where used) entry-test marks.
  2. The first merit list names the top candidates up to the number of seats; it is displayed on the portal or notice board with a fee deadline.
  3. Candidates who pay and complete verification are confirmed; unpaid seats are declared vacant.
  4. A second list fills vacancies from the next candidates in order. A third, fourth or open-merit “walk-in” phase may follow.
  5. Once seats are full, the university publishes a final list and classes start on the announced date.

What To Do the Day Your Name Appears

Pay the fee first, celebrate later

Download the challan or fee voucher immediately and pay it the same or next working day. UoG’s 2026 schedule gave only two days after the first list; Bahria’s plan and UET’s previous cycle give about a week. Keep the bank-stamped copy and a photo of it.

Report for document verification

Carry original certificates, CNIC or B-form, domicile, photographs and the printed application form. Many universities will not accept the fee without verification, or will cancel admission if originals are not produced by a set date. Our documents checklist covers every item.

Confirm your programme and shift

Where a university offers several preferences, you may be placed in a lower choice. Decide quickly whether to accept and wait for an upgrade in the next list (most universities allow this) or to decline. Ask the admissions office how upgrades work before paying.

What To Do If You Are Not on the First List

  • Check the closing merit of the first list; if you are within a few percentage points, a second list is realistic.
  • Do not withdraw applications elsewhere until the final list of your first choice is out.
  • Watch for vacant-seat or open-merit phases such as Punjab University’s Phase 2, which admitted on a first-come-first-served basis. Source: https://admissions.pu.edu.pk/admissions/.
  • Register for the next entry-test series if your target uses one; NUST’s NET Series 2 registration follows in December 2026 to January 2027. Source: https://nust.edu.pk/admissions/undergraduates/dates-to-remember/.
  • Consider a Spring intake rather than a gap year; see our Spring 2027 guide.

Waiting Lists and Later Phases

A waiting list is not a rejection. Universities usually set a fee deadline that is deliberately short so that unclaimed seats return to the pool quickly. Because every student holds multiple offers in August and September, the drop-out rate between the first and second lists can be substantial, particularly at universities that are second or third choice for high scorers. If you are on a waiting list, keep your fee money liquid, keep your phone on, and check the portal daily; some universities notify only on the portal, not by SMS. For private universities that run phases (as Bahria does with Phase I and Phase II for Spring 2027), applying in the earlier phase almost always gives better odds of a seat and a scholarship.

Reading the List Correctly

Lists are typically published by programme and category (open merit, reserved seats, self-finance, hafiz-e-Quran, sports, disabled quota, and so on). Make sure you are looking at the right category and the right campus. Check that your aggregate on the list matches your own calculation from our merit guide; discrepancies usually mean a data-entry error on your form that can be corrected if you raise it before the fee deadline. If you sat an entry test, confirm the test score shown is the one the university said it would use (for example, the best NET series at NUST, or ECAT at UET Lahore).

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Missing a two-day fee window because you were waiting for a “better” list.
  • Paying the fee at the wrong bank branch or against an expired challan.
  • Assuming the SMS will come; portals are the official channel.
  • Not carrying original documents to verification.
  • Forgetting to apply for hostel and scholarship, which usually have their own, earlier deadlines; check the scholarships archive.
  • Treating third-party “expected merit” numbers as fact; only the university’s published closing merit counts.

FAQs

How many days do I usually get to pay after a merit list?

It varies from two days (UoG’s Fall 2026 first list: list on 10 August, fee by 12 August) to about a week (UET Lahore’s Spring 2026 cycle: list on 16 January, fee and documents by 22 January). Always read the notice attached to the list.

Can I pay the fee and still move to a better programme in the next list?

Most universities allow upgrades within the same admission cycle if you indicated higher preferences, but the rules differ. Ask the admissions office before paying and get the answer in writing or by email.

Does Punjab University Phase 2 have a merit list?

The official notice describes Phase 2 for vacant seats as first-come-first-served, with the order decided by challan generation time, rather than a conventional merit ranking. Source: https://pu.edu.pk/home/admission_notice/719.

When will NUST publish its 2027 merit lists?

After the final test series; Series 4 tests are scheduled for June to July 2027 on NUST’s tentative calendar, so lists follow in the summer. Check the official website for exact dates. Source: https://nust.edu.pk/admissions/undergraduates/dates-to-remember/.

What if my name is on the list but my documents have an error?

Go to the admissions office immediately with originals; most universities correct clerical errors before confirming admission. Do not wait for the fee deadline to pass.
