The University of Balochistan (UoB) is the oldest and largest public-sector general university in Balochistan, located on Sariab Road in Quetta. Established in 1970 by the provincial government, it has grown into the province’s main hub for arts, sciences, social sciences, pharmacy, languages and business education, and it also affiliates a large network of colleges across the province. For students from Quetta and the districts, UoB is usually the first choice for a four-year BS degree close to home. The university appears on the Higher Education Commission’s list of recognised degree-awarding institutions (Source: https://www.hec.gov.pk/english/universities/Pages/recognised.aspx).

Admission Process
UoB runs its main undergraduate intake in the Fall semester, with applications normally invited in summer after intermediate results. The Undergraduate Studies Office (UGSO) handles BS admissions. The usual sequence is: read the admission notice, create a profile on the online admission system, fill in the form and upload documents, pay the non-refundable processing fee through the designated bank, then wait for the test schedule and merit lists. Processing fee: the university charges a per-application processing fee, but the current amount for the 2026-27 cycle could not be confirmed from the official site at the time of writing — check the official website. Students whose intermediate result is awaited are generally allowed to apply provisionally.
Entry Test and Merit
For many BS programs the university uses a third-party test (NTS) where applicable, while some departments admit on open merit based on intermediate marks. The weightage given to the test versus academic marks is not published on a page we could verify, so treat any formula you see on coaching websites with caution. Full details, including which departments require the test, are in our UoB entry test guide.
Fee Structure
The University of Balochistan is among the lowest-cost public universities in Pakistan, but the per-semester fee differs by faculty, and professional programs such as Pharm-D and DPT cost more than general BS degrees. No official 2026-27 fee table could be verified for this page — check the official website or the printed prospectus for exact per-semester figures before you apply.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
UoB students can apply for the HEC Need-Based Scholarship through the university’s financial aid office, and Balochistan-domiciled students are also eligible for several provincial and federal schemes announced each year. Confirm the current list on the official website and on our scholarships archive.
Campuses
Besides the main Sariab Road campus in Quetta, the university operates sub-campuses in other districts of Balochistan; admission notices from third-party portals mention Kharan and Qila Saifullah campuses. See the official website for the current campus list and the programs offered at each. Pak Student Hub also keeps a campus directory.
Why Students Choose UoB
Students choose UoB because it is affordable, close to home for most of the province, and offers the widest subject range in Balochistan, including regional languages such as Balochi, Brahui and Pashto that are rarely taught elsewhere. It is a large, traditional campus rather than a polished private institution, so expect a public-university experience. For engineering and IT-focused degrees in Quetta, compare it with BUITEMS.
